Shop / hamiledyi aquarium driftwood
Natural driftwood is untreated before being placed in a fish tank. Prior to adding it to your aquarium, follow these steps: First, wash and clean the driftwood with a brush. Next, boil it in hot water for 2-3 hours to release the tannin until the water color remains unchanged. Then, soak it in room temperature water for approximately 7 days. Remove the driftwood, wash it again, and disinfect it. Submerge it in a solution of potassium hypochlorite for 20 minutes, rinse it with clean water, and let it sit with some water on it for 2 days. Finally, wash it one more time before using it for tank decoration.
It is important to note that driftwood can slightly alter the pH of your water, making it acidic. If the driftwood is not properly treated, sudden changes in pH or water quality can harm your fish or shrimp. Some shrimp species may also be sensitive to these changes, so it is best to test before placing the driftwood in the tank. Over time, driftwood may develop white or black mold in the water, which is harmless to aquatic life. You can remove, wash, and clean it or introduce grass shrimp to eat the mold.
For reptile or amphibian tanks, where the driftwood is used for decoration in a dry environment, simply washing and cleaning the driftwood is sufficient. Keep in mind that driftwood varies in size and shape, so you will receive 2 pieces of assorted sizes and shapes in your package. Authentic natural wood adds a realistic beauty to your aquatic environment, lasting long underwater or in arid conditions.
Each driftwood piece is unique, ranging in length from 15cm to 25cm (5.9 inches to 10 inches) and in width from 5cm to 10cm (2 inches to 4 inches). Use the driftwood to enhance your landscape, crawler box, aquatic habitat, or any other setting. If placing the driftwood in water, soak it for 3-5 days beforehand for optimal underwater effect. In some cases, the driftwood may not immediately sink due to density issues. Boiling it in hot water for 1-2 hours can help it sink better, although we cannot guarantee a 100% sinking rate.
